Art Deco GeoMetrica
For as long as I can remember, I have always been a person who doodles all sorts of things in my notebooks and books. Squares, triangles, lines… instead of the notes for my schoolwork, my notebooks would be adorned with all sorts of doodles. When I got my hands on MS Paint in my old Windows 95 computer, the doodles became even more complicated. My black and white doodles had (gasp) colors! Even when I was in college, to while away the time listening to architectural history or building laws, the same shapes came out of my mind, and again my notes were decorated with more of them. Grid square notebooks were my favorite, as they made my doodling even more complicated… and like many hobbies to pass the time, doodling calmed me down much like when I played the piano.
The habit kind of leveled off when I began working and I found I had not much time to draw anymore. Architecture work took lots of time out of my schedule, and between family duties and house chores, it took me only recently to return and “formalize” my doodling habits. So, I started to draw with the weapons I now had: pen, paper, Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software (in my case, it’s Draftsight and Sketchup). I began to rationalize all the shapes and forms I dreamed of all those years ago.
The result after so much trial and error, are the digital works that I call as Art Deco GeoMetrica: patterns that I envision as square elaborations, which are then iterated to various patterns that surprise (even myself) once it is encoded in the screen. It focuses on projecting geometric and abstract works, generally in monochrome but not always, to create unusual patterns that are highly mathematical in nature. My architecture background becomes evident in that the patterns are highly inspired by Art Deco concepts, but as with many works, this is a work in progress.
Currently, these patterns I make are available in Adobe Stock as graphic resources and in Redbubble as Posters, but perhaps in the future I can explore other avenues for my work.
